Blogging in the classroom

Digital Portfolios are an important inclusion in my computer science classroom. Digital Portfolios can be used by seniors for college admissions and scholarships. Student Digital Portfolios have at least 3 sections: About me, Projects and a BlogSite. Students add BlogPosts on assigned topics and in their senior year develop their own interest topic to Blog about adding weekly posts. Students use a website evaluation tool and complete research on topics in Computer Science each week. Blogging is a relevant skill in professional communities. We blog in robotics classes about topics such as underwater and oceanographic robots. We blog in exploring computer science as a journal about topics such as problem solving and solving problems in community using computers and computational thinking. We blog in cybersecurity about cyber crime, impact of social engineering and impact of social media. Students participate in Blogging each week, and it is not their favorite but in the end they have a unique computational artifact very personal to each student.
